Micro-enterprises face inefficiencies in manual inventory management, leading to revenue loss, pilferage, and supply chain complexities. Current methods lack digital solutions, hindering growth and responsiveness to market dynamics. Can a digital solution be formulated to cater to this that's simple to use and easy to adapt in workflows?

Project Statement

To provide retail micro-enterprises with an Inventory management system. The project aimed to solve for a smaller group under the umbrella of Micro-Enterprises that are abundant in number, especially in tier 1 & 2 cities. It was identified that the existing way of managing inventories had certain pain points, which could be possibly solved by an app-level intervention that is accessible using smartphones.

Pain Points in the existing system

1. Tracking & Documentation
2. Order Management
3. Pilferage
4. Supply Chain

01. The user is presented with a Dashboard upon logging in to access different features of the app.

02. Upon Clicking "+ Add Items" their camera is active and the product that they are pointing at is detected using an  Object Detection ML Model running in the background. The user can confirm the detection result and a list is created after every instance of detection.

03. After scanning all the products a final list is presented to the user to confirm the addition.

04. A list with headings like 'Items', 'Amount' & 'Price' is created for a particular month

The Solution

An application that is closely inspired by the 'Google Business' website. Onboarding is straightforward and the vendor can quickly sign up The user has to point their smartphone's camera to the goods that they are trying to add to their list and the camera detects the product. Upon repeating this a list is created. Which can be used by the vendor to manage stock better.  This replaces physically writing every product down on paper with everything staying in one place on their phone.

Unique Selling Point

1. the vendor gets an option for online visibility the moment they sign up for the application which is a short process, there are still many stores that can't be found online.
2. Using this will give them a view of their inventory analytics which can be useful to stock better, especially in different festive seasons when demand and supply vary.

The Business in Design

1. The target audience for this application makes up a considerable part of Micro Enterprises in contributing to the GDP. An intervention like this would be impacting lives at scale.
2. Since Google is already exploring innovation horizons with Google Lens and visual search, this could be a good domain to put to practical testing. Could also be introduced as a subscription model that would help the tech giant gather more data which can be leveraged by many businesses.

The end product of the project is a mobile application - 'Google Inventory' . It allows for vendors to track their inventory by their phone's camera (using Object Detection ), and storing their data in a list that can be accessed easily and their get analytics and performance reviews to optimise better.
